Occupational physiotherapy/workplace assessment
We have partnered with a nationwide occupational physiotherapy service and can provide a variety of services.
This includes remote physiotherapy with video instruction and online access to follow a course to help with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions which is particularly helpful if affecting work or preventing a return to work which requires physicality.
Our expert physiotherapy team would be able to assess the workplace of any individual across the UK and provide bespoke advice and guidance on modifications that would be of help. This will help to meet any obligations that the employer has under the Display Screen Equipment Regulations in addition to providing increased comfort, especially where the employee has been suffering from a medical condition that is relevant such as musculoskeletal or neurological disease.
Occupational psychotherapy
We work alongside network clinics providing psychotherapy. This is particularly helpful for employees who have mental health conditions, but there is also some evidence that it can assist with work-related stress. The talking treatment that is provided is psychotherapy- based rather than supportive counselling and has a much more robust evidence base.
For example, psychotherapy is effective for the initial treatment and maintenance of major depression based on numerous randomised controlled trials. The effectiveness of antidepressant medication compared with psychotherapy (primarily CBT) is generally comparable (1). One advantage provided by psychotherapy is that following a course of treatment, the benefits often persist and patients remain well. In patients who recover with antidepressant medication and then discontinue it have a relapse rate of up to 60% after two years. In contrast, the risk of recurrence in CBT is 39% over a similar period (2).
Psychotherapy is also felt to be the first-line treatment in patients with minor depression in whom the benefits of medication would be unclear.
In patients who do not respond to either medication or psychotherapy alone, there is evidence that combination treatment gives rise to a moderately large beneficial difference (one additional positive outcome for every four patients treated) (3)
